Dakura is the studio project of guitarist Simon Patterson and percussionist/drummer Matt Goddard. The music is a unique blend of guitar and percussion with eclectic influences that could best be described as "modern creative".
Simon Patterson is a graduate of the Sydney University Conservatorium Jazz Programme and has maintained a long and diverse performing career. He was guitarist on the national television show Hey Hey, It’s Saturday from 1991-99 and 2009, where he backed artists including BB King, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Jones, Roger Daltry (The Who), Jackson Browne, Renee Geyer, Daryl Braithwaite, Keith Urban, Billy Thorpe, James Morrison, Randy Crawford, Tommy Emmanuel, Jimmy Barnes and Martin Taylor, amongst many others. Other television credits include Logie Awards, Carols By Candlelight, Australia’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars.
Simon’s live work includes working with Shirley Bassey, Daryl Braithwaite, Kate Ceberano, Scott Hamilton, The Bushwackers, Chris Wilson, Project 3, Ricky May, Cybil Sheppard, Simon Patterson Trio and Mumbo Gumbo, as well as the musicals The Lion King, Wicked, Mamma Mia, King Kong, Hairspray, Fame, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Hair, The Boy From Oz, Eureka, Anything Goes, Promises, Promises and Metro Street. Festival appearances include Byron Bay Blues, Woodford, Port Fairy, Apollo Bay, Melbourne Blues, Canberra Blues, Melbourne and Brisbane Guitar Shows, and Guitar Fever. Support acts include Robben Ford and Michael Landau (Renegade Creation), Mike Stern and Dave Weckl, Akira Jimbo, Tom Jones, Randy Crawford, Chad Wackerman.
Simon has been a national Clinician/Endorsee for Marshall, Yamaha and Zoom Products and a Fender and Takamine Endorsee.
Matt Goddard started out as a drummer before pursuing studies in classical percussion at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia. As a freelancer in Melbourne, Matt worked primarily with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Percussion ensemble Woof!. In 1998 he worked as percussionist and timpanist with Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa in Japan before returning to his home town of Hobart in 1999 to take up his current position as Principal Timpanist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Matt is a member of the early music ensemble Sequenza and performs with Tracey Patten in the percussion duo Mattra.
